Disaster Planning

Disaster Planning

Funeral directors play an important role in the event of a mass-fatality, such as a pandemic flu, a natural disaster or other catastrophic event. Families and communities count on you to provide the same high level of care and compassion for families during such a challenging time as they do today. Your funeral home and staff should be prepared to serve families and your community during mass-fatality situations.

Funeral Home Emergency Actions Plans

An Emergency Action Plan (EAP) establishes steps employees should take to respond to an emergency in the workplace. NFDA developed a comprehensive template with accompanying instructions to help you create an EAP for your funeral home. Emergency Action Plan Template for Funeral Homes

State Mass Fatality Plans

At the 2015 NFDA Leadership Conference, NFDA presented the Death Care Mass Fatality Plan – A Template for State Associations, which serves as a general best-practice guideline to aid states in developing a specific death care “plug-in” to state mass fatality plans mandated by the federal government.

Overall mass fatality plans vary by state; therefore your state’s specific plan should be referenced for details.
